Wondering what one might work like? Not sure what voice type falls between soprano and alto? Don’t worry, because I’m here to help you with some extra clues and the answers for today's NYT Mini crossword.
The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper's larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.
Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

It took me 1:19 to complete today's NYT Mini.
I had no shot at getting the first two answers right away. I initially suspected that 6 Across might be “tenor” but I was way off base there. at least I got OREOS and NOD to get me started.
I then thought that 1 Down might be “zoned.” That’s kind of ironic given one of this puzzle’s two gimmicks of sorts with the double “Z”s. Once I had ORZO figured out, MEZZO and GMOS became clear. From there, I was able to fill in the blanks for a so-so time.
I had to go with a slightly cryptic hint for ORZO because I was stumped for that otherwise. You’ll find the letters for that word in “horizontally.”
