Chase Freedom Unlimited is a very good credit card, according to WalletHub’s proprietary 100-point card rating system. It’s worth applying for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card if you have a good credit score and you want to earn rewards as well as enjoy low introductory interest rates without paying an annual fee.
The Freedom Unlimited card rewards users with 1.5 - 5% cash back on purchases, plus an extra 1.5% cash back on up to $20,000 spent the first year. It also offers a promotional APR of 15 months. These features are elite, based on WalletHub’s analysis of 1,500+ credit card offers.
Below, you can find more details to help you decide whether or not to apply for Chase Freedom Unlimited.
Chase Freedom Unlimited Review Highlights
Extra 1.5% back in the first year
Currently, Chase Freedom Unlimited gives you an extra 1.5% cash back on everything you buy, up to $20,000 spent in the first year. That could result in up to $300 in additional cash back. More specifically, you’ll be earning 6.5% on travel purchased through Chase, 4.5% on dining and drugstores, and 3% on all other purchases.
0% intro ratefor purchasesand balance transfers
Chase Freedom Unlimited offers 0% APRs for both new purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months. The purchase part of the equation is fine, as long as you make sure to pay off your full balance by the time well-above-average regular rates take effect.A credit card payoff calculator can help with that. The only potential downsides are the Chase Freedom Unlimited’s higher regular APR and balance transfer fee of 3% for balances transferred in the first 60 days (5% after that).
Solid, straightforward everyday rewards
Chase Freedom Unlimited offers 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase, as well as 3% cash back at restaurants and on drugstore purchases.
Plus, the 1.5% that you’ll normally earn on any other purchase madewith the Freedom Unlimited Credit Card is about 30% more than the average cash back card will give you, according to our latest Credit Card Landscape Report. Earning the same amount on most purchases also reduces hassle.
$0 annual fee
In addition to simply saving you money, Chase Freedom Unlimited’s lack of an annual fee will help you avoid feeling pressured to spend more than you want or close your account earlier than you’d like.
3% foreign fee
You should probably limit your use of Chase Freedom Unlimited to the U.S. Its foreign fee makes it a bad choice for international use, especially when so many no foreign transaction fee credit cards are available.
It’s also important to reiterate that you need good credit or better to qualify for the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card. If you’re not sure where your credit currently stands, you can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub.

Is Chase Freedom Unlimited hard to get?

Chip Lupo, Credit Card Writer
@CLoop
The Chase Freedom Unlimited® card is hard to get. You need a good credit score of 700 or higher, and enough income to afford at least the minimum monthly payments on the Freedom Unlimited card to have a good chance of being approved. In addition, Chase considers factors such as your existing debt, monthly housing payment amount, and number of recently opened credit accounts, among others.
How to See if Chase Freedom Unlimited Will Be Hard for You to Get
You can get a better idea of how hard it will be to get a Chase Freedom Unlimited card through Chase's online pre-qualification tool. You'll know in a matter of seconds what your odds are of getting Chase Freedom Unlimited and other Chase credit cards, based on the information you enter. Plus, pre-qualification doesn't affect your credit score, as the process is done using a soft inquiry.
Being pre-qualified is not a guarantee that you'll get a Chase Freedom Unlimited card, so you will have to submit an application to know for sure. If you do apply for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card, Chase will do a hard inquiry on your credit report. This type of inquiry will knock a few points off your credit score but only temporarily.

No, Chase Freedom Unlimited is not a good credit card for beginners because it requires at least good credit for approval. This credit score requirement means that the Chase Freedom Unlimited card is not accessible to people who are just starting to build their credit.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited foreign transaction fee is 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars. This fee applies to transactions made both in person and online.
So, if you plan on spending a lot of money overseas or at foreign-based merchants, it can really add up quickly. Hence, you're better off using Chase Freedom Unlimited for your everyday purchases and getting a second card with no foreign transaction fee for your foreign purchases.

Would give a 0 if I could. If you carry a balance from one month to the next STEER CLEAR. Chase is only looking for money. Wasn't able to pay full balance in April, but paid the statement balance/card balance off in May (BEFORE THE PAYMENT DUE DATE). Received my next statement expecting to owe $0 - instead I owed money. Called Chase and was told this was because I didn't pay my statement in full in April, so I was charged interest from April until the date I paid the account off (in full!). Talked to 3 people and no one would remove the interest. So, if for some reason I was someone who couldn't pay this interest amount, the cycle would continue. Very shady business practice! I closed the account. HORRIBLE card - had the card for 7 years, and the amount of 'cash back' I earned on purchases was negated by interest.

Chase does not care about cardholders anymore! Chase did not investigate the following and allowed the scammer to keep the money: I attempted to utilize my account for a transaction involving hotel booking accommodations. However, despite my efforts, I encountered significant difficulties in completing this transaction and ultimately did not receive the intended service.
The transaction in question pertains to a booking through Prestigia.com for hotel room reservation. It is important to note that my initial intention was to use the Kayak website for booking. However, during the process, I was somehow redirected to Prestigia.com without my explicit consent. I never received a booking number or any form of confirmation from Prestigia.com, not even a spam email. Upon contacting the designated hotel directly, I was informed that there was no record of any reservation under my name, nor had any payment been received.
In an attempt to resolve this issue, I contacted Prestigia.com many times to seek clarification and assistance. Regrettably, my attempts to communicate with them have been met with silence, as I have not received any response or acknowledgment of my inquiries.
Given the lack of communication and the failure to provide the promised service, I was left with no choice but to dispute this transaction. Chase didn't resolve the problem and didn't care that I closed the account with them.

I have had Chase Freedom Unlimited for over five years now with a 20K limit. It started with a 4K limit and every request for a limit increase was flawless. I will add that my business is with Chase, credit card processing through Chase Merchant Services, as well as my mortgage. I do believe that because my business and personal banking are with Chase, they have worked with me spectacularly! I do know that not everyone owns a business, but if you ever start up, keep in mind to do all your business with them. There are many unwritten and unadvertised benefits associated with the loyalty.

I rented a car in Iceland. Chase told me my credit card provided insurance. They sent me a letter proving this prior to my trip so I could show the rental company. The car was damaged in a parking lot while I was renting it. When I returned the car, the rental company demanded a hold on the credit card for the estimated repairs of $2,564.48. They literally would not drive me to the airport (3 miles away) until I let them put a hold on the card. I almost missed my flight. The rental company told me they would email me the actual bill and final charge. They never did. I asked multiple times, and they refused. I disputed the hold charge with Chase, and they said it was valid, but they also said I can't file an insurance claim because I don't have an actual bill, just the hold charge. The rental company has no incentive to send me the actual bill because Chase is letting them keep the full hold of $2,564.48.

I have owned a Freedom Unlimited Card for over 4 years. It always stopped allowing over-the-limit charges to go through until I lost my home during the pandemic and reached my limit due to over $1,000 in hotel bills. Then, Chase suddenly, without my permission, opted me in for over-the-limit transactions and blocked me from making payments at their ATM machines.
It seemed like my interest charges were increasing, which leads me to believe there were hidden fees charged for this service.
Chase began reporting this to TransUnion, causing my credit score to drop dramatically by 80 points or more.
I reported this to the CFPB twice, then to the DOJ Disability/Civil Rights Division, to the DFPI Financial Commission, and to my branch manager.
Let the buyer beware: the name of the card suggests it applies the opt-in rule automatically to everyone when their credit limit is reached.
This is non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Such a thoughtless concept of "one size fits all" harms the lives of seniors, disabled people, and immigrants from foreign countries—all on fixed income from the US government.
Credit bureaus, DOJ Civil Rights, both Attorney Generals, and the media are being alerted about Chase's continuance of their oversight.
I was the person who lobbied for the debit card lock on overdraft charges by the OCC—Office of the Comptroller of Currency in Houston. A law was created for both debit and credit cards to include an auto-decline feature—chosen by the consumer, on every single card, unless specified by the consumer.

I've made two purchases from the 'Shop through Chase' portal during Thanksgiving, and I never received my bonus points. I contacted Chase and they first told me the purchase was not travel-related, so I couldn't get the bonus points, and requested that I read the agreement (I've used 'Shop through Chase' for several years, so I don't need to reread the agreement). Secondly, when I called again, they simply hung up the phone. Thirdly, I reported this to the CFPB, and their response was 'it is a merchant issue' and requested that I contact the merchant. However, when I contacted the merchant, it became clear that 'Shop Through Chase' is a Chase program that is not related to the merchant.

WORST CARD EVER **BEWARE**
What's bad? Their customer service are clueless, their fraud department don't know to resolve anything, their escalation team won't do anything for you besides listen & say sorry.
---
This is my first experience with Chase, and it will be my last. Terrible customer service and it should be called "Chase Restriction Limited".
In the first 3 days of this card, I had to call the fraud team 8 times to stop declining my transactions. Each time I try to use the card at a new *merchant*, they decline my charges. I am not going to call Chase to unlock my card when I use it at a new merchant or Vendor. Credit Card is supposed to make my life more convenient, not restrict my time.
Customer Service centers sucked badly. Takes a minimum of 20 minutes, upwards to an hour each time. Each time, they told me the issue would be taken care of, and I continually had to call to fix this issue. One time, the customer service hung up on me; another time, the customer service rep rushed me to another department and then passed me off for no reason.
Look I understand the security & protection side of things, but this is terrible. The app/user interface is terrible. The customer service is terrible. I can not find one single good thing to say about my short time with Chase.
None of this is exaggerated.
If I can leave you with anything, don't apply to be a Chase Freedom Unlimited customer. Don't put this headache and pain onto yourself. Nobody deserves this.
