Review: THE SPY WHO WENT INTO REHAB at Pacific Resident Theatre
Los Angeles: Amanda Callas on June 12, 2024

The Spy Who Went Into Rehab is a cheeky, high-spirited, brilliant new world premiere comedy at the Pacific Resident Theatre. This sexy, adventurous, romp follows a simple and hilarious premise — what would happen if James Bond were court-ordered to rehab?

Review: CLYDE'S at Portland Center Stage

CLYDE’S is a must-see play and the best possible way to end the PCS season.

OUR ORANGE SKY weaves personal struggles and societal issues into a family reunion where no one escapes unscathed.

Review: DESPERATE MEASURES at Armonk Players
Rockland / Westchester: Bruce Apar on June 12, 2024

One of the several surprises I encountered as Desperate Measures got underway with a bang at North Castle Library’s Whippoorwill Theater in Armonk, N.Y. is that the dialogue is all rhyming couplets. If that brings to mind the prolific punslinger Wild Will Shakespeare, it should, because the premise of this Western-themed show is based on his play Measure for Measure. (The Armonk production is through June 15; armonkplayers.org).

Review: HEAD OVER HEELS at Albuquerque Little Theatre
Albuquerque: Jackie Camborde on June 12, 2024

Head Over Heels is a jukebox musical with music and lyrics from the catalog of 1980s girl band The Go-Go’s. With a book by Jeff Whitty, adapted by James Magruder, the plot is derived from the 16th century play The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney. Head Over Heels opened on Broadway in 2018 and ran for six months. It is currently running through June 16 at Albuquerque Little Theatre in Albuquerque, NM.

Review: Sutton Foster Showcases Her Soprano in Concert with Boston Pops
Boston: R. Scott Reedy on June 12, 2024

Sutton Foster just may have made history during her recent concerts with the Boston Pops – as the first artist to break out the crochet needles and yarn to add a few rows to an in-progress blanket mid-performance at Symphony Hall.

Review: TINA, THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL at The Overture
Madison: Scott Rawson on June 12, 2024

From the gripping opening number to the dynamic conclusion, Tina, The Tina Turner Musical, is on hell of an emotional rollercoaster. The highs and lows of Tina's tumultuous journey are brilliantly encapsulated in the show, and her extraordinary music weaves through a narrative that is both heart-breaking and stunning.

Review: GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY at Eccles Theater
Salt Lake City: Hayley Westwood on June 12, 2024

GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY (book by Conor McPherson, music and lyrics by Bob Dylan) is a Tony-winning production, now on tour across the U.S., U.K. and Australia. The show is a re-imagining of 20 legendary Bob Dylan songs used to stitch together a patchwork of stories of several strangers in 1930s Duluth, Minnesota.

Review: BYE, BYE, BIRDIE at Kennedy Center
Washington, DC: Elliot Lanes on June 12, 2024

The latest entry into Kennedy Center’s Broadway Center Stage series is one that you don’t see produced professionally very often which is a good thing. The 1960 Charles Strouse/Lee Adams/Michael Stewart musical Bye, Bye, Birdie was at one point the most produced musical by high schools and community theatres but strangely it has had very few large-scale revivals. Roundabout Theatre Company’s production in 2009 marked the last time the show was seen on Broadway in a major production.

Review: DRACULA at The Marcelle Theater
St. Louis: Rob Levy on June 12, 2024

Finishing the company’s 32nd season, this alluring redux of Bram Stoker’s literary classic emerges from the shadows to give audiences an emotionally charged musical with plenty of chilling moments.

Review: ORVILLE PECK - THE STAMPEDE TOUR at The Armory

Orville Peck, the enigmatic country music singer, brought his Stampede tour to the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 11, 2024. The evening opened with stellar performances by Debbii Dawson and Durand Jones, who skillfully warmed up the crowd for Orville Peck's entrance.

Review: DEFRANCE at Magic Springs Theme And Water Park
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on June 12, 2024

It was a hot day with the heat index reaching 100 degrees for the kick-off of the 2024 Webmonster Concert Series at Magic Springs Theme and Water Park, 1701 East Grand Ave, in Hot Springs, with Arkansas band de France opening for the Spin Doctors Saturday, June 8.Still, what better place is there to watch an outdoor concertthan at Magic Springs? You can play in the water and ride the rides with the wind blowing in your face for hours before the show starts. Then spread out your blanket or sit on your lawn chair on the grass inside the fences of the Timberwood Amphitheater, which Magic Springs had looking like some of the best Arkansas golf courses you can find.It is such an inviting venue to soak up the sun and some amazing music.

Review: MJ at Shea's Buffalo Theatre
Buffalo: Michael Rabice on June 12, 2024

The king of pop surely had a storied musical career that went from child star to tabloid fodder in his all too short life. The life of Michael Jackson, now the Broadway musical MJ, is igniting the stage of Shea's Buffalo Theatre through June 16th. Fear not , the moon walk, the infamous sparkly glove and that unmistakable breathy speaking voice is all there, but is that really enough to make a great musical?

Review: DURAN DURANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA at Troubadour Theater At The COlony
Los Angeles: Evan Henerson on June 12, 2024

The Bard is back and DURAN DURANTHONY & CLEOPATRA is up to snuff, zanily on point both in its concept and execution. When it comes to pop-Bard hybridization, Walker and his company know exactly what they’re doing.

Review: THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY AND JUNE at La Jolla Playhouse
San Diego: ErinMarie Reiter on June 12, 2024

Review: Bridget Bean's One Woman Show THE DROPPING WELL at the Tampa Fringe Festival
Tampa/St. Petersburg: Peter Nason on June 12, 2024

Bridget Bean is a born storyteller. You can tell as she immediately enters the stage that she is 100% in her element. If there’s anything we’ve learned from her past One Woman Shows (including Shirley Valentine and her Titanic Fringe piece from two years ago), it’s that this format works beautifully with her personality, her expressive face and that mesmerizing speaking voice.

Review: MISS JULIE, Park Theatre
UK / West End: Cindy Marcolina on June 12, 2024

Max Harrison’s production is a beautiful textbook revival that, while leaning into the comic side of the text (translated here by Michael Meyer) accordingly tips into the opposite range of emotional distress. This Miss Julie is funny one second, horrid the immediate next.
